History

The Church derives its name from St Faith, a young girl from Agen in Aquitaine. At the turn of the 4th century, it is believed that St Faith was martyred on the orders of the Roman Governor of the region for refusing to make a sacrifice to pagan gods. Roman Catholics celebrate St Faith's feast day on 6th October.

There has been a chapel on the present site in Maidstone since 1272 and for a century and half it was a refugee church for the people escaping from the French persecution of Heugenots in Europe. The current St Faith's Church was built in 1872. Its cornerstone reads 'To the Glory of the Blessed Trinity'.
